PROGRAMS
Have some summer fun with the family and beat the heat with the YMCA at the Indoor Pool at the Chesterton Middle School!
All Aquatic Programs will take place at the Chesterton Middle School, enter through Door #11. The 2023 season will be May 30-August 4.
POOL UPDATES
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have been working on providing aquatic programs to the Duneland Community this Summer. Due to this unexpected maintenance, we will not be opening our outdoor pool this summer.
We are grateful to the Duneland School Corporation and the Chesterton Middle School for their generosity and partnership in allowing the YMCA to use their aquatic facility.
OPEN SWIM
No reservations are needed when it comes to staying fit and having fun. During our open swim and lap swimming times you can just jump in and get moving.
The Duneland Family YMCA offers open swim to members Mon-Fri 1:00-3:00 pm. On Fridays, the pool is free (no cost) to the community from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. Lap Swim is from 10 am-12 pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as during Open Swim.
Please, no monofins or mermaid tails are permitted. Certified lifeguards are on deck during pool hours to ensure everyone’s safety.

SWIM LESSONS
PARENT & CHILD CLASSES
Ages 6-36 months
Our parent/child swim lessons will increase your child’s self-confidence. Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness.
PRESCHOOL
Ages 3–5
In this program, young children learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills—swim, float, swim and jump, push, turn, and grab.
SCHOOL-AGE
Ages 5-12
In the school-age swim program, having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke techniques
On the first day of class, instructors will determine the starting “stage” for your child, and place them into the appropriate lesson group. From there, children progress at their own pace through the six school age stages.
PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS
A private swim lesson is a one-on-one session between the student and a certified swim instructor. Private lessons include 4, 30 minute lessons.
Private swim lessons can begin at any time, if we have an available instructor. Interested in Private Swim Lessons?

Frequently Asked Questions
A: Instead of opening our outdoor pool this summer, we are excited to partner with the Duneland School District to use the pool at the Chesterton Middle School and host swim lessons, open swim, and aquatic group exercise classes.
A: A number of different factors played into our decision to not open our outdoor pool this summer and while we understand this is disappointing we hope that you’ll join us at the Chesterton Middle School this summer as we explore other avenues to serve our community.
A: Not necessarily! Swim lessons and Aqua Aerobics are open to both members and nonmembers. Open Swim on Fridays is free and open to the community!
A: Because of our agreement with the Duneland School Corporation, we will not be able to rent the pool to members and guests.
Q: Age 14 & over are invited to use the full swimming pool facilities during regular designated hours of open swim.
No one under 9 years of age will be allowed unless accompanied by a parent/guardian.
The cost of swimming lessons depends on the student’s YMCA membership status. Private and semi-private swimming lessons are offered at a different rate.
