The YMCA’s before and after school enrichment program serves children from kindergarten to age 12 and is available in all 5 Duneland elementary schools. Our program nurtures the spirit, mind, and body, giving children the ability to develop and reach their full potential.

Out of School Learning provides developmentally appropriate activities that will enhance your child’s confidence, enrich his or her social and physical development, and encourage self-expression. Arts and crafts, games, homework time, snack, wellness, nutrition, and outside time are some of the daily activities that will be available to your child.

These are the curriculum areas that our Out of School Learning program staff will use as the framework for planning daily, weekly, and monthly activities:

  • Arts and humanities 
  • Character development 
  • Cultural diversity 
  • Health, wellness, and fitness 
  • Homework support 
  • Literacy 
  • Science and technology 

The Y provides a healthy breakfast before school and a healthy snack after school. 

If your child has any allergies or requires a special diet, please note it on your registration form and make sure your site teacher is aware of it. 

This is a sample of a daily schedule. Each site has a daily schedule created by the site instructor. 

  • 2:30-3 p.m. Sign-in and snack time
  • 3-3:30 p.m. Homework and activity stations 
  • 3:30-4 p.m. Quiet Activity Time 
  • 4-4:30 p.m. Outside Time or Gym Time
  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. Activity stations/enrichment clubs 
  • 5:30-6 p.m. Group games/activities
Led by qualified, caring staff, the Duneland Family YMCA's licensed Out of School Learning program is designed to be fun and educational, and align with the school day, supporting growth in literacy, math, and science. Your child will receive help with their homework, participate in games and activities and grow their creativity through a variety of projects. A healthy snack is also provided.

  • Registration is based on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage anyone interested in camp to register as soon as possible.

OUT OF SCHOOL LEARNING FAQ:

Q: Who do I contact for questions regarding billing?

For questions regrading billing, please email [email protected].

Q: When are payments drafted?

Payments will be drafted each Monday of the current week of care with our convenient electronic draft system.

Q: When is the deadline for my child to be added to attendance?

The deadline for your child to be added to attendance is at 6:00 pm the Wednesday prior to the week you wish to attend.

Q: Can I get a credit if my child does not attend?

The Out of School Learning Program does not offer credits except for the following circumstances: Hospitalization or Death in immediate Family. Credits will not be issued to accounts with balances due. The credit will be applied toward the balance.

Q: What if my schedule changes week to week?

Indicate on the Advanced Payment Sheet what your first week of care is going to be, then email Melissa at [email protected] by Wednesday prior to the week of care you are needing what your schedule will be.
