At the Duneland Family YMCA, strengthening community is our cause. We are looking for a passionate, mission-driven leader to join our team as the Director of Programs. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director of Programs is responsible for leading and expanding high-quality youth and adult experiences. This role develops and implements strategic practices that foster growth, ensure excellence in program delivery, and strengthen community partnerships.

 

Some of the key responsibilities for this position will include:

1. Ensures assigned programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding program growth within the community as needed. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

2. Leads efforts to identify and pursue new program opportunities aligned with community needs and the YMCA’s strategic plan.

3. Develops, manages, and builds strong partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders.

4. Cultivates relationships with key community leaders and local professionals to enhance program visibility and alignment with community needs.

5. Develops and manages a variety of engaging enrichment experiences for all age groups including daily senior activities, VEX robotics, and more.

6. Steps in program operations as needed.

7. Recruits, hires, supervises, mentors, and evaluates program staff to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality programs and a positive staff culture.

8. Assists in the marketing and distribution of assigned program information.

9. Implements systems for regular program evaluation, including staff performance, participant satisfaction, and impact measurement, and uses data to inform continuous improvement.

10. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

11. Manages assigned programs, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities, or events.

12. Ensures programs are aligned with best practices in youth and adult enrichment and operate at the highest standards of safety, engagement, and impact.

13. Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.

14. Maintains proper records/department files.

15. Organizes department related special events, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

16. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

17. Supports and provides leadership for the annual fundraising campaign, including staff team coordination and donor engagement, as assigned.

18. Supports efforts to secure and manage funding through grants or sponsorships aligned with youth development programs.

Qualifications and experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in an education related field, recreation, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

· Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with local organizations and community stakeholders to support program expansion and relevance.

· One to two years of management experience preferred.

· Upon hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, Employee Orientation, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

· Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards, if applicable.

· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.

Instructors must be able to work Monday-Friday one or both shifts: Before school care is from 5:55 am – 8:15 am; After school care is from 1:45 pm – 6:00 pm.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides
a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect,
responsibility, and caring.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 21 years old

The Duneland Family YMCA is hiring Lifeguards/Swim Instructors to help create a safe, fun, and educational aquatic environment for our community. Whether you’re watching over swimmers or teaching life-saving skills, you’ll be making a difference every day.
Lifeguard Responsibilities:
•Monitor pool activities and enforce safety rules
•Respond to emergencies and perform rescues
•Administer CPR, First Aid, and AED when needed
•Maintain cleanliness and safety of the pool area
•Participate in ongoing safety training and drills

 

Swim Instructor Responsibilities:
•Teach swim lessons to children and adults of all skill levels
•Create a positive, encouraging learning environment
•Track student progress and communicate with parents/guardians
•Ensure class safety and follow YMCA swim program guidelines
•Assist with special aquatic events and programs
Qualifications (for both roles):
•Minimum age: 15 years
•Lifeguard Certification (Red Cross or equivalent) – required for lifeguards.Training provided.

•Strong swimming skills and ability to pass American Red Cross
•Ability to work with all age groups
•Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor


Preferred Qualifications:

•YUSA swim certification – required for swim instructors. Training provided
