Overview
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. In this role, you will design and implement personalized fitness programs for members, guide them toward achieving their health and fitness goals, and provide education and encouragement throughout their fitness journey. You will play a key role in promoting wellness and fostering a positive and inclusive training environment. We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Personal Trainer to join our dynamic fitness team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of physiology, anatomy, and body mechanics, enabling them to design effective training programs tailored to individual client needs. This role requires a passion for fitness and a commitment to helping clients achieve their health and wellness goals in a supportive environment.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct fitness assessments and consultations to understand clients’ goals, needs, and current fitness levels
  • Develop individualized training programs based on client assessments, goals, and abilities
  • Monitor progress and adjust training programs as needed
  • Motivate and inspire clients to stay committed and consistent
  • Maintain accurate records of client progress and attendance
  • Educate clients on basic nutrition, wellness, and lifestyle habits
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming training environment
  • Collaborate with other fitness professionals and staff as needed
  • Demonstrate correct stances, posture, effective ranges of motion, alignment and technique during wellness consultation and healthy lifestyles sessions.
  • Take professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell personal training and additional YMCA health & wellness services & programs.
  • Understand the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of personal trainers.
  • Attend continuing education and mandatory trainings.
  • Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities.

Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pervious YMCA experiences, or experience in personal training, and health and wellness programming, preferred.
  • National certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification a plus.
  • Minimum of 1-year personal training experience preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; Personal Trainer Insurance

Job Type: Part-time

Lifeguard/Swim Instructor – Duneland Family YMCA

Make a Splash This Fall – Join Our Aquatics Team!
The Duneland Family YMCA is hiring Lifeguards/Swim Instructors to help create a safe, fun, and educational aquatic environment for our community. Whether you’re watching over swimmers or teaching life-saving skills, you’ll be making a difference every day.
Lifeguard Responsibilities:
•Monitor pool activities and enforce safety rules
•Respond to emergencies and perform rescues
•Administer CPR, First Aid, and AED when needed
•Maintain cleanliness and safety of the pool area
•Participate in ongoing safety training and drills

Swim Instructor Responsibilities:
•Teach swim lessons to children and adults of all skill levels
•Create a positive, encouraging learning environment
•Track student progress and communicate with parents/guardians
•Ensure class safety and follow YMCA swim program guidelines
•Assist with special aquatic events and programs
Qualifications (for both roles):
•Minimum age: 15 years
•Lifeguard Certification (Red Cross or equivalent) – required for lifeguards.Training provided.
•CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
•Strong swimming skills and ability to pass American Red Cross
•Ability to work with all age groups
•Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor

Preferred Qualifications:

•YUSA swim certification – required for swim instructors. Training provided

Swim Instructor – Duneland Family YMCA Healthy Living Campus

Location: Duneland YMCA Healthy Living Campus, 651 W Morgan Ave. Chesterton, IN

Swim Instructor (Part-Time)
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–11:00 AM Start Date: September 2025

Position Summary
We are looking for enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our aquatics team as Swim Instructors. In this role, you’ll teach children basic swimming skills and water safety in a fun and supportive environment.
No prior teaching experience is required — we provide training and mentorship to help you succeed.

Responsibilities:

• Instruct swimmers of all ages and skill levels following YMCA swim lesson curriculum
• Create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe learning environment
• Monitor participants to ensure safety and respond to emergencies as needed
• Set up and put away equipment as needed for classes
• Communicate with supervisors, parents, and team members professionally

Requirements

• Comfortable in the water and able to demonstrate basic swim strokes
• Must be reliable, punctual, and enjoy working with children and families
• Willingness to complete YMCA Swim Instructor Certification (provided)
• CPR and First Aid certification (provided)
• Pass a background check
• Completing on Child Abuse Prevention classes (provided)

We’re hiring enthusiastic, positive site instructors for our Out of School Learning (OOSL) program. Instructors will provide a fun and positive experience to youth in our local schools while leading them through structured activities such as homework time, gym time, and fun social interaction. Instructors must be able to work Monday-Friday one or both shifts: Before school care is from 5:55 am – 8:15 am; After school care is from 1:45 pm – 6:00 pm.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides
a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect,
