Safe Sitter

Safe Sitter® is an up-to-date and well-rounded youth development program with a medical basis.

The pediatrician-developed program teaches young babysitters everything they need to know to keep themselves and the children in their care safe. The nationally-recognized program includes childcare techniques, basic first aid, rescue techniques (like choking, CPR and first aid) babysitting as a business, and online and cellphone safety. 

PROGRAM DETAILS

Safe Sitter® Expanded is an 11-hour expanded curriculum over a two day period designed for comprehensive coverage.  It has all the topics  covered in both Essentials and Essentials with CPR courses including Infant and Child CPR.  Plus it includes a Toddler/Preschool Guest, more practice time and expanded information on Preventing Injuries and Behavior Management. 

Safe Sitter takes place at our Forchetti Family YMCA Center for Early Learning. Rates are $80 per Y member or $100 per non-member. A Safe Sitter manual is included in the program fee. Please pack a sack lunch or snacks.

SAFE SITTER CLASS CONTENT

The Instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use manikins to practice rescue skills like choking rescue!

SAFETY SKILLS

Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.

FIRST AID & RESCUE SKILLS

Learning skills such as choking rescue is often students’ favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.

LIFE & BUSINESS SKILLS

The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role plays.

CHILD CARE SKILLS

Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.
