YMCA Branch Name

The Duneland Family YMCA is accepting donations of cases of bottled water to help provide families in the city of East Chicago with clean, safe drinking water. Thousands living in East Chicago, many of them children, can’t use their drinking water because it’s contaminated with high levels of lead and arsenic.

For distribution and storage purposes, only cases of bottled water can be accepted. Donated cases will be transported weekly to East Chicago. Your generosity will be deeply appreciated by the families living in this affected area.

Please drop off cases of bottled water at the Duneland Family YMCA, 215 Roosevelt St. or the Chesterton Fire Department at 702 Broadway. Both are open seven days a week. For more information, please contact Jane Delligatti at the Y, 926-4204 or Chief Jarka at CFD, 926-7162.

To have an outdoor garden with fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers year-round for the Duneland YMCA serving educational purposes and promoting healthy snacks. The garden will also be populated with native plants that are low maintenance and provide habitat for key native wildlife while making our garden into a healthy ecosystem.

The objective of our garden is to support individuals of all ages throughout our communit

y in their quest to grow in spirit, mind and body. By strengthening one’s health through increased availability of healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity through projects that complement, and provide for collaboration with existing programs within the scope of the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Please consider becoming a volunteer to help with gardening/harvesting chores. Contact Ashley Hall at (219) 926-4204 or Carla Patino-Davis (219) 926-4204 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

PC Substance Free is a community-wide collaborative to achieve the result "All youth in Porter County are Substance Free." As a community leader, you may already know that our youth experience higher-than-state-average rates for the use of alcohol, marijuana, ecstacy and other non-prescribed drugs, in addition to rising death rates due to heroin use. Substance abuse not only impacts youth and their families, but it also affects our entire community.

In the Fall of 2014, the Porter County Community Foundation and community partners launched the Getting To Results initiative, (which has become PC Substance Free) to put a laser-like focus on this issue. The PC Substance Free Group is made up of community stakeholders like me to develop and implement powerful strategies and measure our progress toward achieving the targeted result: "All youth in Porter County are substance free." Partners from over 30 organizations throughout Porter County representing a variety of sectors - including law enforcement, education, health care, community organizations, local government, religious organizations, and employers - are working across their organizations to implement change. The Duneland Family YMCA is proud to partner with Empower Porter County PC Substance Free. We need the entire community to join in this effort.
